Council confirms commission appointments but ties on vice-mayor vote; item tabled

The council moved to untable and then approve several appointment resolutions. Resolution RO12601 appointed Patrick Ernst to the Clayton Planning Commission; the motion to appoint was made by Kenneth Henning and seconded by York, and passed by voice vote. Resolution RO12602 appointed Mike Petrovsky to the Board of Zoning Appeals after a motion by Kelly and second by Henning, and the council approved by voice vote. Council removed Resolution RO12608 from the table and approved Destiny Thomas for the Parks Advisory Commission with a second and a voice vote.
On a separate leadership item, council members considered Resolution RO12610 to elect a vice mayor and president pro tempore. A motion to elect Kenneth Henning was seconded; during roll call Henning, York and Farmer voted yes, and Gorman, McDowell and Kelly voted no, resulting in a 3–3 tie. The presiding official stated, “We are tied. The motion does not pass.” Henning then moved to table the vice mayor election until the next meeting, and the council voted to table the item.
Council members thanked new appointees and noted the volunteer nature of several commission roles. The appointments will fill openings on city advisory bodies and the vice-mayor selection will return for a future meeting.
