The meeting was called to order by Richard, vice chair, at 7:21 a.m. Leadership confirmed attendance and said eight of 13 members were present in person, establishing a quorum. Members reviewed committee assignments and agreed to front-load voting items on the full-board agenda so key votes appear early in the meeting.
Committee reports included notice that the board received a liquor-license filing for Los Primos at 698 Allerton. Board members asked staff to confirm whether police or precinct sign-off raised any outstanding issues before the full board considers the item.
Alex Olsen, chair of the education, culture and youth services committee, said the committee will circulate a draft letter of support for the SIMS Collegiate Institute for Math and Science and encouraged board members to solicit applicants for a youth leadership award. "We have a letter of support for a local school that wants to apply for a grant," Alex Olsen said, adding that the committee will draft and circulate materials. Leadership noted five scholarship slots are available at $750 per student and asked staff to distribute the application notice more widely.
Members also discussed a proposed homeless shelter that could present to the housing committee at the board’s next meeting, and agreed to list at least three voting items for the upcoming full-board meeting, including the liquor-license filing and education-related votes.
Patrick Hill, the new district director in Council Member Aldeball’s office, introduced himself and said his office will share contact information for constituent services. Leadership closed the meeting after a motion to adjourn was made and seconded.
Next steps: the leadership committee will circulate the SIMS letter draft to board members, confirm police feedback on the Los Primos license, and publish the full-board agenda with front-loaded voting items.
