ZBA pauses auto‑repair petition to require screening and detailed storage plan

An application from Fall River Auto Repair LLC to permit storage of towed vehicles on a portion of its nearly one‑acre property was tabled Jan. 15 so the applicant can submit a more detailed plan showing screening, setbacks and spill containment.
Jeff Tallman, an engineer representing the petitioner, said the northern portion of the site is largely unused and proposed installing a solid six‑foot privacy fence along residential edges and using the area for stowing towed cars. Board members and staff raised questions about hours of operation, whether wrecked or leaking vehicles would be stored on gravel without containment, the distance of storage from property lines and the need to comply with parking and landscaping standards.
Tallman said hours for customer drop‑offs would be roughly 8 a.m. to 7 p.m., and the petitioner confirmed it maintains other lots in nearby towns for overflow. The board asked the applicant to return with a site plan showing the storage limit, the screening treatment and any paving or stormwater controls; the applicant requested tabling and the board granted that request to Feb. 19 to allow time for a revised submittal and site plan review.
