Board signs Greyhound Performing Arts Center contracts, approves Klinger for material testing

The Burlington Community School District board on Jan. 12 approved contracts needed to advance the Greyhound Performing Arts Center project and approved Klinger to perform required material testing.
Cindy Larson told the board the district obtained the building permit from the City of Burlington and an Iowa DNR permit, and that construction is scheduled to begin March 16. "We have the building permit from the city of Burlington, applied for and paid for, and we have the permit in hand as well as the Iowa DNR permit," Larson said. She described traffic and staging plans (contractor parking, temporary fencing and office trailers) and said interior temporary walls will separate students from construction zones; the district will schedule noisy work away from national testing dates.
Larson recommended Klinger for the code‑required material testing after analyzing two proposals (Terracon and Klinger). The board moved to approve the Klinger contract; the motion passed by voice vote.
Next steps: staff will finalize contracts, coordinate preconstruction meetings with prime contractors and confirm site logistics with school schedules before the March 16 start date.
