County staff seek Iowa Area Development grant to support economic development operations

"They are exploring an opportunity to receive a grant of Iowa area development... that would increase there," Speaker 1 said, adding the funds would go toward operational costs and contractor support. The draft budget reduces advertising and marketing because prior increases were connected to one‑time childcare marketing requirements and a costly conference trip.
Staff also discussed producing a Mitchell County promotional flyer and continuing work on a business and land directory. Speaker 1 said a strategic plan is in preparation and that final decisions on grant applications and marketing allocations will follow once that plan is complete.
No final grant acceptance or contractual change was adopted during the session; supervisors asked for a written strategic plan and for staff to bring final grant application details back to the board before committing county funds.
