Board elects officers, approves two elementary renovation GMPs, Chromebook purchase and political representation contract

The Papillion La Vista Community Schools Board of Education elected a full slate of officers and approved several contracts and purchases at its Jan. 12 meeting.
Miss Butler nominated a slate of officers — Brian Lotus for president, Lisa Wood for vice president, Skip Bailey for secretary and Marcus Madler for treasurer — a motion the board seconded and approved by roll call. The board then turned leadership over to President Brian Lotus, who presided for the remainder of the meeting.
On facilities spending, the board approved the recommended guaranteed maximum price (GMP) of $5,592,979 for the Patriot Elementary renovation with construction manager-at-risk Boyd Jones and a GMP of $5,979,635 with Sampson Construction for Walnut Creek Elementary. Both measures included delegation of signature authority to district administrators to execute contracts and change orders.
The board also approved a recommended purchase agreement to acquire student Chromebooks from CDW for $625,140 to secure current pricing amid reported component shortages; staff said warranty activation will be deferred until the machines are activated in the summer so the district receives the full four-year warranty period.
Separately, members approved renewing the district’s political representation contract with Catalyst Public Affairs (Tim Gay) for 2026 at an annual fee of $39,000 plus expenses. Staff argued that legislative monitoring and in-person presence during the short legislative session are valuable for tracking fast-moving floor amendments and state aid changes that affect the district.
Each motion was moved and seconded as recorded in the minutes and carried by roll-call votes.
