The Punta Gorda Development Review Committee on Jan. 23 recommended approval of event permit 26-00100006 for the American Made band at the Salty Tarpon on Feb. 14, 2026, with conditions including a police detail, a maintenance-of-traffic plan and required documentation to Urban Design.
Carl Bench, principal planner, opened the agenda item and staff advised that because alcohol will be served in the road-closure area, a police detail must be on site during the closure and may be released once the road reopens. Robert McCurry, an applicant representative, asked, “What time will the road be closed?” and staff discussed scheduling officers so they can be dismissed promptly when the road reopens.
Dave Myers, right-of-way supervisor, said the city requires a maintenance-of-traffic (MOT) plan for closures that will show the closure of Virginia to Nesbitt and the alleyway; applicants are typically provided lane-closure codes and must submit the plan to Public Works for review. Staff also told the applicant to provide an extension of the liquor license and to submit a certificate of insurance listing the city as additionally insured and a letter of property-owner approval to Urban Design.
Urban Design reiterated that the applicant must indicate on- and off-site parking on a site plan and provide tent/canopy dimensions if used. After the conditions and document requirements were reviewed, a committee member moved to recommend approval with the conditions provided; the motion was seconded and the committee voted to carry the motion.
The committee’s approval is a recommendation to proceed with permit conditions; Urban Design and Public Works will confirm final compliance before the event.
