Parks staff told the commission that site-preparation work for the new playground is complete and that equipment installation and surfacing are scheduled for the spring.
"This first step of the site prep work is all complete. The curbing is installed," Ryan said, describing completed site work and approved perimeter fencing. Staff said equipment installation is scheduled for February, followed by a stone base and poured-in-place surfacing. Ryan cautioned the surfacing requires consistent temperatures above 50°F and said the playground will remain closed until walkways and surfacing are complete to avoid liability and maintenance issues.
Commissioners asked about a formal launch date and whether people might use the equipment before surfacing is finished; staff said they do not expect public use until accessibility work and surfacing are fully complete and offered to provide a progress update at a February or April meeting.
The commission did not set a public-opening date at the meeting. Staff said they will report progress to the commission in future meetings and will coordinate final opening communications once work is complete.
