Marshfield Fire & Rescue introduces three new career-track recruits, returns toward 2021 staffing levels

Marshfield Fire & Rescue on Friday introduced three new career-track 2 recruits as the department moves back toward 2021 staffing levels.
Fire Chief introduced James Clements, Jonathan Pangborn and Braden Petersen and described their near-term training plans. Chief said the hires mark “a return to our 2021 staffing levels, a significant milestone.” The chief said the recruits will complete paramedic training and Firefighter I certification before moving to career-track 1 assignments on their assigned shifts.
Chief said James Clements began ride-alongs with the department in November and December 2024, completed the candidate physical ability test and is enrolled in a paramedic program that will finish in April 2026; Clements also plans to attend a summer Firefighter I academy in June 2026. Jonathan Pangborn began with the department January 2, 2026, has completed the candidate physical ability test and is working on Firefighter I certification through North Central Technical College, with paramedic coursework scheduled through December 2026. Braden Petersen completed Firefighter I at Mid State Technical College and is scheduled to take the state practical this weekend; he will begin paramedic coursework later in January 2026 with an expected December 2026 graduation.
The chief noted the community’s support for a referendum last April that helped restore staffing capacity. Several members of the committee and Mayor Lois welcomed the recruits; the chief invited the room to “please join me in welcoming recruits Clements, Pangborn and Peterson to the Marshfield Fire & Rescue Department family.”
Chief said the recruits bring varied local experience: Clements graduated from Marshfield Senior High School in 2024 and was active in wrestling, football and track; Pangborn is a Faith Christian Academy graduate who previously obtained an EMT license from North Central Technical College; and Petersen graduated from Athens High School and worked in local manufacturing and service jobs while completing EMT coursework. Chief said, after completing required certifications, each recruit will move to full-shift assignment.
