The first revision moves the April election day to a no‑school day (it had been a half day) and shifts professional development to maintain mandated PD time. The second calendar ties the start of the school year to fall primaries: with a primary on Sept. 1, administrators proposed opening school on Wednesday, Sept. 2 and adjusting teacher professional development days to create a four‑day teacher weekend before the start date. Under the draft tied to the primary, the last day of school would be June 17 if no snow days occur.
Administrators explained the changes are driven by safety and space concerns when polling is held in gymnasiums with surrounding classrooms that lack the security measures used elsewhere. The superintendent said the district will continue to coordinate with town officials on polling locations and will return the calendar to the committee for public comment and a formal vote at the next meeting (the item will be placed on the consent agenda if there are no further changes).
