Davenport Civil Service Commission reappoints HR director as clerk, keeps current chair and vice chair

The Davenport Civil Service Commission reappointed the city’s HR director to serve as the civil service clerk for the coming year and confirmed the current chair and Jerry Thomas to continue as chair and vice chair, respectively, during its Jan. 14 meeting in Davenport City.

A staff member clarified the commission’s governing rule, saying, "So your Davenport civil service commission rule 1.1 requires that you appoint a civil service clerk each year," and requested reappointment of the HR director to the clerk role. The presiding officer moved to reappoint the HR director; another commissioner seconded the motion, which passed by voice vote.

The commission then moved to annual leadership appointments. A commissioner proposed that the existing officers remain in place for the next year. A staff member restated the motion for clarity, specifying that the current chair would continue and that Jerry Thomas would remain vice chair. The commission approved the motion by voice vote.

Both actions were procedural, administrative steps that establish who will carry out routine civil service responsibilities and preside over commission meetings for the coming year. No amendments or dissents were recorded during the motions. The commission adjourned at the end of the meeting and is scheduled to reconvene in February.
