Construction delays push intermediate school turnover to mid‑March

Christian Salazar of CR Crawford and Mike Space of Build Architects updated the board on the intermediate-school and roofing work, informing trustees the project will not meet the previously announced Jan. 30 completion. "It's looking like now the final completion, the CFO in hand punch list completed, building turnover to you guys 100% is looking at March 13 or March 18," Salazar said, adding that encountering rock in several canopy footings added roughly a week-and-a-half to the schedule.

Salazar said canopy columns required manufactured components and that a Feb. 6 delivery was the vendor's latest guaranteed date; the contractor planned a one-week installation window after delivery. He also said the city has offered a temporary certificate of occupancy so administrative staff might use interior spaces in February while exterior canopy work remains fenced off for safety.

Why it matters: The delay affects administrative moves and some planned access changes; the board and administration emphasized safety and open communication with principals. The roofing vendor also reported Allen and Intermediate roofs are near completion while Southside remained slightly behind schedule but expected to finish the following week.

Next steps: Contractor will continue work toward the Feb. 6 delivery and the revised March turnover; administration will coordinate temporary occupancy logistics and follow up on remaining sidewalk repairs and cleanup around playground areas.
