The Columbia County Tourism Development Council voted to approve a $5,000 funding request for the downtown Barbecue Showdown. Staff described the event as a recurring, growing attraction and invited the event representative, identified in the meeting as Miss Phillips, to speak briefly.
TDC staff explained the board’s reimbursement practice: organizers request an amount (here $5,000) but the board pays only documented eligible costs submitted on required paperwork. As staff put it during debate, "they ask for $5,000, but if they only turn in $3,000 worth of paperwork, that's all we're getting; we're not just cutting the check for $5,000." The board made a motion, received a second and approved the funding by voice vote.
No additional conditions or amendments were recorded on the motion during the meeting. Staff will process the request according to normal paperwork and reimbursement procedures.
