Forsyth commissioners approve grants, contracts and routine purchases; Hall of Justice sale brokerage authorized 6–1

The Forsyth County Board of Commissioners approved a series of consent items on Jan. 17, including housing funding agreements, contract awards for detention commissary services, multiple vehicle and equipment purchases, and facilities work.
County Manager briefed the board on two housing-related items: an interlocal agreement with the City of Winston-Salem to accept $221,000 for housing rehabilitation and first-time homebuyer down-payment assistance, and a funding agreement with the North Carolina Housing Finance Agency to accept $182,000 to administer a single-family loan pool for housing rehab through Dec. 2027. Both measures were approved unanimously.
The board also approved procurement and contract awards: a revenue contract to McDaniel Supply Company Inc. for on-site inmate commissary services at a 43.5% commission rate for Feb. 1, 2026–Dec. 31, 2028; vehicle purchases and remounts for multiple departments (parts a–c) totaling collectively up to the amounts presented; furniture purchases for the agricultural park project not to exceed $341,076.97; and replacement rooftop units at the Walkertown branch library not to exceed $117,378.21. Commissioners recorded brief discussion but approved these items by voice vote.
On a separate property matter, the board authorized a second agreement with NAI Piedmont Triad LLC for brokerage services to complete the sale of the Hall of Justice to MedSolutions Compounding Pharmacy; the authorization to pay the required 6% commission if the transaction completes passed 6–1.
The board accepted financial reports for October and November and approved a change to a winter workshop start time, moving the Jan. 29 meeting from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. The meeting adjourned early.
