The Glendale Civil Service Commission on Jan. 14, 2026 elected Commissioner McGrabian as its new chair and Commissioner Reen as vice chair during a reorganization of the commission.
Commissioner Patin nominated McGrabian for chair; no other nominations were made and the motion was approved on a roll call in which Commissioners Jahanian, Reen, Naravian, Hatamian and McGrabian voted yes. For the vice chair position, Reen was nominated and confirmed by roll call; Reen recorded an abstention while the other commissioners voted yes.
The leadership votes followed extended public comment from Edgmon Hakobian, who criticized the chair's handling of previous meetings and urged clearer note-taking and stronger oversight of committee audits. Commissioner (speaker S3) called parts of the public comment unprofessional and inappropriate. Chair McGrabian, in closing remarks at adjournment, said she did not take the appointment lightly and promised to serve the city to the best of her abilities.
The commission did not record any competing nominations for either position. The changes take effect immediately; the commission's next procedural steps will be set at future meetings as needed.
