Summary
District staff outlined a month‑by‑month plan to update the Local Control and Accountability Plan (LCAP) including a new goal for an equity multiplier school; Principal Shavona Johnson reported enrollment growth and instructional emphases at the Matt Garcia Career and College Academy.
District staff and site leadership presented updates on the district’s LCAP process and the Matt Garcia Career and College Academy at the Jan. 15 board meeting.
Assistant Superintendent Dr. Sheila McCabe described the district’s timetable for updating the three‑year LCAP and said staff will present components monthly through June to produce a final document for board approval. McCabe said the LCAP is a tool to set goals, actions and funding sources; the district is in year two of its current plan and will write a new plan in year three. She said staff plan to add a seventh LCAP goal because a second school had been identified as an equity multiplier school (Glenn Richardson) and that the county recommended treating that work as a separate goal. McCabe said the process will include advisory committee meetings (students, parents, staff), public hearings and a needs assessment tied to the learning recovery emergency block grant.
Principal Shavona Johnson reviewed data and program highlights for Matt Garcia Career and College Academy (grades 6–8). Johnson said enrollment has remained stable with a slight increase to 202 students and a waitlist that grew from 20 to 41. She highlighted gains in English language arts and mathematics, AVID strategies, a district emphasis on writing across grades, and partnerships that produced real‑world learning experiences such as financial literacy workshops and student news broadcasts. Board members suggested community collaborations, including a possible visit to Solano Community College’s broadcasting studio for the academy’s media program.
Staff said the LCAP update will return to the board monthly with more detail and that the midyear report and local indicator report will come forward in February for further review.
