Summary
At its Jan. 14 meeting, the Planning and Zoning board voted to demolish a vacant double-wide mobile home at 1823 Heritage Court after staff cited unsecured access, extensive structural damage and public-safety risks; no owner appeared to contest the action.
The Planning and Zoning board voted Jan. 14 to demolish a double-wide mobile home at 1823 Heritage Court after staff said the vacant structure presented health and safety hazards and owners did not respond to notices.
Staff member (Speaker 2) told the board the house was open and unsecured, with the roof and floor coming apart and household items left inside. "Everything is unlocked, everything is open and easy to access the inside," Speaker 2 said while showing photos. Staff reported reports of neighborhood trespassers and that no owner or representative appeared at the hearing.
The home sits immediately behind Chacon Creek, staff said, and inspectors noted rodent and other pest risks. Board members and public commenters stressed the possibility that someone — including a child — could be injured if they entered the structure.
After staff recommended demolition, the board moved to authorize removal of the structure. The presiding officer (Speaker 1) called for a voice vote; members answered "Aye" and the motion carried.
Board staff said they would issue a demolition order and follow enforcement procedures, which may include placing a lien on the property to recover costs if the city performs the work.
The board handled several other property cases in the same meeting and adjourned with its next session scheduled for March 11 at 6 p.m.
