St. Joseph County commissioners voted Jan. 13 to grant an easement to AEP/Indiana Michigan Power to serve a new lift station on Smilax Road.
County staff explained the lift station site and some adjacent property will be deeded to the City of South Bend once construction is complete and that AEP’s requested easement will transfer to the city at that time. Bill Shelio said power to the lift station is needed and that the easement carries no cost to the county or AEP. Commissioners moved, seconded and recorded ayes to approve the easement agreement.
