Park staff proposes $250 lifeguard referral bonus to ease seasonal hiring

Park staff told the Franklin City Park Board on Jan. 15 that recruiting and retaining lifeguards has become more difficult and proposed a referral bonus to increase summer staffing.
Speaker 2 described the proposed program: if an employee refers a friend who is hired and both complete the summer season, each would receive $250 at the end of the season. "If you make it all the way to August 23 and don't quit and do what you're supposed to do, then you each get $250," Speaker 2 said, noting the incentive is intended to encourage retention through the season. Speaker 2 added that referrals would be screened for quality: employees with disciplinary write-ups, suspensions or terminations would disqualify the referral from receiving the bonus.
Speaker 2 said staff would prepare a written proposal with more details and return it to the board at the next meeting for possible approval. No incentive program was adopted at the Jan. 15 meeting.
