Board accepts $15,000 Eversource payment for permanent easement at Northrop Park

The Stamford Planning Board on Sept. 2 approved accepting $15,000 from Eversource Energy in exchange for a permanent easement across Northrop Park to permit part of a five-mile underground transmission-line project connecting local substations.
Lou Caslo presented the item and said Eversource required the permanent easement to install and maintain underground conduits where they could not place the line in the city right-of-way because of existing utilities. He said the $15,000 is a check cut directly by Eversource and will be deposited into the Northrop Park capital project account once the appropriation is approved. The account is intended to fund future playground rehabilitation and related park work.
Board members reviewed the easement location on maps provided during the presentation and heard that the area is near Stark School tucked between Schofield Avenue and Glenbrook Road. Lou said the easement area will be returned to the city after construction and Eversource will retain ongoing access rights for maintenance.
The motion to accept the payment and appropriate the funds was moved by William Levin and seconded by Ravi Subramanian and carried unanimously.
