Summary
The Montgomery Economic Development Corporation picked a monument sign design and voted to let the city administrator sign off on final wayfinding plans, while staff will return with a full sign book and hold a workshop on locations and drainage constraints.
The Montgomery Economic Development Corporation on Jan. 20 chose a preferred monument sign design and authorized the city administrator to execute final sign-off on wayfinding and monument signage once necessary approvals are obtained.
Staff presented five sign types — a gateway monument, directional wayfinding blades, informational kiosks, park signs and lane/directional blades — and showed two monument options labeled A and B. Designers said the signs would replace existing green TxDOT population markers at entry points and use a consistent color, font and Texas-flag imagery. Board members favored Option B for its compatibility with the town’s planned signage.
Discussion focused on placement and technical constraints. Staff said Pizza Shack’s property owner had granted permission to place a monument sign at that site but that TxDOT right-of-way and drainage ditches at some entry points could limit locations. Staff told the board the vendor will return with a full location book, costs and color samples before fabrication.
Board members moved to let the city administrator execute the final sign-off on each item after MEDC approval; the motion was seconded and passed by voice vote. The board also agreed to a follow-up workshop where the vendor will review precise locations and receive design feedback from council members and stakeholders.
The authorization does not itself commit fabrication dollars beyond design and approvals; staff said further cost breakdowns would be presented with the full sign packet at a later date.
