Board delays appointment to Prescott Justice Court to review process and applications

County Manager Maury Thompson told the board the position was posted for two weeks and that a hiring committee composed of county and court officials had reviewed 10 applicants and recommended three finalists for board consideration. Several supervisors questioned the committee process, argued the board should have more time to review all resumes and called the hiring‑committee composition into question because some committee members may appear before the justice court.
Vice Chair Compton, Supervisor Check and others urged additional time to review the full record; a motion to postpone the item to Sept. 17, 2025 passed unanimously. The board left open the option to hold interviews in pairs of supervisors to accommodate confidentiality and efficiency.
What’s next: staff will return the item on the Sept. 17 meeting agenda with instructions consistent with the board’s direction and any agreed interview procedures.
