Erie approves CDOT I‑25 interchange multimodal study IGA; staff lists grant figures and town match

The Town of Erie approved an intergovernmental agreement with the Colorado Department of Transportation to accept grant funds for an I‑25 interchange and multimodal study that will analyze the corridor between Erie Parkway and Highway 7/52, evaluate transit connections to the Gateway Transit Center and consider a multiuse trail and a wildlife undercrossing.

Senior transportation planner Miguel Aguilar said the grant and study are part of CDOT’s regional funding process. In describing the award staff made two figures available in the presentation: at one point Aguilar described the project as "awarded at the project cost of $500,000," and later stated, "The award was $400,000, and the match from the town is $75,000, as well as from Weld County, with $25,000." The council discussion explored coordination with neighboring communities and routing and confirmed CDOT will approve the study scope and contractor selection.

Councilors pressed staff on how the study interacts with planned bus rapid transit (BRT) and other regional services; Aguilar replied the study will evaluate ridership and how proposed BRT, RTD and other services could connect through the Gateway Transit Center. The resolution passed unanimously on a roll call vote.
