The Town of Erie unanimously approved an amendment to its intergovernmental agreement with Boulder County Communications to cover an increase in dispatching fees that staff said is "going up approximately 14%." The change was presented by Erie Police Chief Lee Mathis, who said Boulder County has provided dispatch services and served as the town's 911 answering center for about 25 years.
Chief Mathis said Erie's share of calls for service has grown along with the town's population. "This year, it is going up approximately 14%," he said, adding that the town's calls have increased roughly 12–13% over the last year. Mathis noted the town has explored other dispatch options, including Weld County, but recommended continuing with Boulder County because of operational ties—citing access to a Boulder County SWAT member and participation in joint task forces.
Council members asked whether growing development toward Weld County would affect response times; Mathis replied that all Erie 911 calls currently route through Boulder County dispatch and that department radio connectivity means response time should not be affected. The council approved the resolution on a roll call vote; each member present voted yes.
The amendment covers increased ongoing operational costs (dispatcher salaries and 911 technology). No dollar figure for Erie’s new annual payment was stated in the presentation; the amendment was approved as presented.
