Town staff: White Cliffs purchase moving forward; environmental cleanup will shape final cost

Staff said they visited the site most recently the preceding Friday and emphasized that the timeline for a special town meeting depends on the preservation language and the Mass. Historic Commission’s consent.
Staff said the purchaser is considering historic tax credits but that environmental cleanup and remediation costs will be the main driver of the ultimate price. They identified a minimum baseline figure of about $2,500,000 that incorporates prior town capital and Community Preservation Act resources the town has invested on the property.
Officials said they will withhold a public recommendation on scheduling a special town meeting until they have the preservation language and consultant reports finalized. The Committee did not take any formal action on the White Cliffs item during the meeting.
