Carrie Gregory, co-chair of the HPAB, said a resident who arrived late to a prior meeting "spoke in support of Shawn Levy's archaeological work, and she spoke about the damage to Romero Cabin and the historic sign in the Fuller Lodge Lodge historic District by the sprinklers." The board agreed to place the item on a forthcoming agenda and asked members to bring photographs to the next meeting.
Board members discussed practical next steps: documenting current conditions with photos, confirming whether irrigation is affecting the cabin or nearby archaeological deposits and, if warranted, asking the county to move sprinkler heads or adjust the watering schedule. "We can say that it's a problem and then request that the county move the sprinklers, turn the sprinklers, or change their watering program if we all agree that it is a problem," a board member said during the meeting.
Why it matters: members said visible water staining around the cabin base and on nearby signage suggests repeated irrigation is reaching features that should remain dry, potentially accelerating material deterioration; the boards role is advisory and any maintenance or irrigation changes would be implemented by county operations.
