Friends of the Pool say LED upgrade funded as group urges wider use of free passes

Anne Hurd, speaking during public comment at the Dallas City Council meeting on Sept. 2, told the council the Friends of the Pool have been distributing free pool passes and providing swim-lesson certificates to community partners.
Hurd said the group gave nearly $3,000 in swim-lesson certificates (about $65 each) to community partners including Polk Resource Center and that the group recently paid a bill of roughly $770. “We’ve raised $2,000 so far since August,” she said.
Hurd described a planned upgrade at the pool from fluorescent to LED lighting estimated to cost about $10,000 and said the group’s smaller donations — $50, $100 and $500 contributions — were being directed specifically to that project. She said volunteer media lead Dean Sprague will film and post a before-and-after video to thank donors.
Hurd read a donor card from a resident, Linda Rosenbaum, who told the group the pool and classes had been “a lifesaver” and enclosed $100 for lighting. Hurd said many passes go unused even when distributed to partner groups and urged the community to take advantage of the free opportunities.
The remarks were part of the meeting’s public-comment period; no formal council action on pool funding appeared on the agenda.
The council then moved on to routine business, including consent items and ordinance first readings.
