Public works updates: EV chargers, airport hangar and pavement projects; transit pilot steady

Public Works staff briefed the Transportation Board on several operational and capital items, including EV charging installations, airport hangar work, pavement preservation and transit service updates.
Staff reported they will begin construction preparations for an eight-unit T-hangar and will start design work on a taxiway relocation project; federal funds have been received for design and staff said they expect to pursue construction funding later. On community outreach, staff recapped Los Alamos Cleanup Day on Sept. 20, noting good participation and plans to improve message-board placement and provide more safety vests for volunteers.
On electrification, staff said the capital projects and fleet teams are working with the sustainability manager to install more EV chargers at the municipal building and elsewhere and are adding EVs to the county fleet. Staff described adding six new charging units that can supply two ports each and noted one existing single-port unit; staff provided two totals during the meeting (an initial count of 14 and a later clarification of 13 operational ports). "We're actually utilizing the vendor to help maintain those," staff said regarding maintenance responsibilities; customer care will route malfunction reports to public works electricians for troubleshooting and repair.
Staff described ongoing pavement preservation in the North community and on San Le Difonzo Road and planned milling and repaving on North Mesa Road toward Stanley De Folsa Road; state monies are supplementing that work. Staff also said Saturday service pilot ridership has been "pretty steady," but driver recruitment and retention remain challenges. Finally, staff reported receiving a notice from the National Park Service suspending the Bandelier shuttle and issued a press release.
Staff said more detailed schedules, maintenance contacts and next steps will be circulated to the board and will appear in future packets.
