The Board of Public Utilities on Sept. 17 recommended that county council convert one overfill FY26 position into a permanent electric distribution superintendent. Joanne, who presented the request, said the position was last used in 2008, has been updated to current job and salary standards, and was recommended in the board’s recent electrification study to provide needed project and supervisory capacity.
Joanne explained the role will oversee three electric crews and their supervisors and should be a journeyman lineman by qualification. Board members sought assurance the conversion would not be used to increase headcount indirectly; staff said they had reviewed retirement and staffing trends and expected to hold the overfill count stable in the coming year.
A motion to forward the conversion to council passed on roll call 4–0. The recommendation will proceed to county council for final decision.
