Staff: Jersey barriers on Trinity Drive were temporary; county will develop aesthetic, permanent options and historic review

Director Martinez told the Transportation Board that the Jersey barriers along Trinity Drive at Ashley Pond were a temporary loan from DOT used to address crowd-safety concerns during the summer concert series. He said staff plans to remove the barriers after the season's final event but may keep them for one additional event if needed.
Martinez said the county is exploring permanent, more visually appropriate measures (bollards and similar fixtures) as part of a Trinity Drive safety effort that is nearing design. Because Ashley Pond is in a historic area, any permanent features will be reviewed by the Historic Preservation Advisory Committee and forwarded to the State Historic Preservation Office for approval or comment.
Staff expects to present visual options within a few weeks for board review and historic-preservation consultation; Martinez estimated a 2'to'4-week timeframe to prepare recommendations and suggested the November meeting as a feasible place for further discussion.
The discussion clarified that the temporary barriers were provided free of charge by DOT, and that any permanent installations would need to balance crowd protection, aesthetics, sight lines and emergency/maintenance access.
