Los Alamos County Council voted Sept. 9 to authorize the county to enter a loan agreement with the New Mexico Environment Department’s Rural Infrastructure Program to obtain project funds for wastewater plant upgrades.
Utilities staff described planned capital work including concrete repairs to large aeration basins, replacement of the fine screen and ultraviolet disinfection systems, HVAC improvements, and miscellaneous electrical upgrades. Utilities staff said the county applied for $2,000,000 in assistance — a $1,750,000 principal loan at 1% interest plus $250,000 in loan subsidy/grant funds — and expects to execute an agreement within two months and begin improvements in early 2026.
Councilor Reiting moved adoption of Ordinance No. 745 (authorizing the loan agreement) and staff were asked to publish the ordinance in summary form; roll call was unanimous 6-0 with one absent.
