Youth Commission approves minutes, discusses school-clothing donations, trainings and HHS updates

The Town of Northborough Youth Commission approved the minutes for Oct. 7 and Nov. 2 by voice vote and moved on to routine business and community outreach plans.
Chair Erica Ziger led roll call and asked for corrections to the minutes; a motion to approve the minutes was moved and seconded and passed with affirmative voice votes recorded on the transcript.
Members discussed holiday outreach and a proposal to collect gently used school spirit clothing and similar items for students in need. The idea was credited to Sue (identified earlier in roll call as Sue Ogre), who said the concept grew from experience with the town’s coat drive and that distribution could be handled by Health and Human Services or school nurses so items reach students who need them. Commissioners discussed potential collection points (town hall and the library) and a target timeframe in late winter or early spring for collection and distribution.
Caitlin Mitchell of Health and Human Services reported program activity for November: six new clients, two returning clients and 25 case-navigation cases, most involving housing, utilities and food; she said HHS is planning a lunch-and-learn on health data trends (COVID, flu and RSV) and continuing small-group programs and book clubs.
Commissioners were also reminded of community training opportunities: a CPR class on Jan. 21 (sign-up through the recreation department), and an anticipated Narcan training for juniors in collaboration with schools and public-health partners planned for January. A member also noted the scholarship committee’s online auction, which runs through Friday evening.
The commission set its next meeting for Jan. 6 at the library with a remote option and adjourned with holiday wishes.
