Council approves Recology lease expansion to expand recycling services

The Astoria City Council voted to authorize lease amendment number 2 with Recology Western Oregon to expand the transfer station lease area by about 18,000 square feet adjacent to the existing transfer station.
City Manager Scott Spence explained the expansion would allow Recology to provide additional recycling services under the Oregon Recycling Modernization Act and said staff supports the amendment. "Recology would then approve that site and then, again, provide additional offerings for recycling for our community as well as our region," Spence said. (City Manager Scott Spence)
Staff noted the parcel currently contains some storage items and an old shed that needs removal; Recology plans to clean up the area as part of the amendment. Councilor Mozzarella moved to approve the lease amendment and the motion carried by voice vote.
