HDC holds consent-with-conditions on scaling proposal for white trim, asks applicant to return with options

At the Jan. 20 meeting the Nantucket Historic District Commission debated a consent-with-conditions that would permit white trim only if the whole proposed structure were scaled down. The condition as drafted required scaling the structure to 96% if white trim were used; Commissioner Angus proposed instead scaling to 75% (a more substantial reduction). Commissioners and the applicant’s representative discussed alternative trim colors (Quaker gray or Essex green) and other mitigation measures such as removing corner boards to reduce the visual effect of white paint.
The applicant’s agent and Ray Poole requested time to consult the owner and present options. After discussion the board moved and carried a motion to hold the consent item until the commission has a full membership present and the applicant returns with potential revisions or clarification. No final approval was given for the white-trim option at this meeting.
