VDOT reports bridge schedules, winter readiness and buggy‑beacon grant for Charlotte County

Brian Locker, assistant resident engineer, told the board that recent dry weather allowed crews to focus on maintenance activities across Charlotte County, including stitch paving, pothole repair and dressing work orders.

Locker said the Route 92 bridge has a scheduled completion date of August 2027 and the Route 642 (Mossingford) contract was executed with a December 2026 completion estimate. He noted sidewalk work near the Charlotte Courthouse was finished in December. Locker described an application and likely approval for grant funding to install flashing beacons triggered when slow‑moving buggy traffic is present; exact beacon locations will be determined after traffic counts and coordination with county staff.

Locker also said the Phoenix area headquarters is filling supervisory positions and that crews recently received salt, sand and brine for winter operations. He advised constituents to call the VDOT work‑order phone number for local road issues and said the department stands ready to respond based on storm severity and county priorities.

Board members asked about pretreatment practices during recent snow events and Locker explained pretreatment priorities for primary routes and lag times for making primaries passable during storms.
