The unsolicited PPEA submission reportedly included architectural drawings and a proposed scope that would add roughly 24,000 square feet of student space behind the school — including a 100‑by‑100 competition gymnasium, locker rooms, a nurses’ office, five classrooms and restrooms — and noted that back‑of‑building work would not alter the school’s front appearance or the historic district. Dr. Mason emphasized that accepting a PPEA does not obligate the school division or the county; the PPEA initiates an RFP process to solicit competing proposals.
Dr. Mason also discussed funding options and said staff are considering using a portion of the county’s Fund 71 (sales‑tax proceeds) and future proceeds to pay for the project, noting that would be a multi‑year (20‑year) commitment tied to Fund 71’s revenue stream; the presenters noted cost will be clearer once competing proposals are evaluated. Staff said a committee will evaluate incoming proposals and return information to the board, likely in March.
No board action was required beyond acknowledging the RFP posting; the board asked staff to continue evaluation and present recommendations when proposals are scored.
