Dr. Wexler presented a midyear update on the Great Valley School District’s board‑approved three‑year equity plan during the Jan. 20 meeting, outlining progress across six priority areas and next steps for professional learning and implementation.
Dr. Wexler said building principals and site‑based equity teams have led professional learning for faculty on bias and discipline, and the district has run trauma‑informed practices training and an overview of restorative practices for administrators, teachers and counselors. He described a planned train‑the‑trainer schedule with a larger three‑day staff training in May and said the district has piloted restorative practices work with administrators and plans further scaling.
The presentation noted work on language supports, including credit/transcript analysis at the high school using the multilingual family liaison, and said the district is navigating bilingual‑counselor needs "without having to hire additional staff" by reallocating existing resources. Dr. Wexler also said the district is working with the foundation to secure activity‑busing for after‑school activities, with an initial focus on the 5–6 center.
Other items in the update included curriculum‑support work by CST teams, revised observation/feedback questions for teacher walkthroughs and plans to continue equity‑plan progress reporting in April. The district described the slide showing progress as illustrative rather than scientific.
What’s next: The district will return to the board with a third and final equity update in spring; staff said training and staffing implications will inform budget and personnel requests coming later in the year.
