Among the recipients, a volunteer company requested $24,766.64 to match an Office of EMS grant for a LifePak 35 (an automated external defibrillator with cardiac monitor); Riverheads Volunteer Fire Department was recommended for $8,646.72 to fund the county’s share of four MSA gas meters.
Staff said the committee reviewed each application for eligibility and that the remaining unallocated balance would be held for the next round because the other applications did not break down requests in a way that made partial awards practicable. A motion to approve funding as recommended was offered and the board voted to approve.
Board members asked about the original $50,000 fund ceiling and why only two applications were funded; staff replied the committee preferred to hold the remaining balance in the account until the next round when more targeted requests might be made.
