The Accomack County Agricultural and Forestal District Committee opened its first meeting of 2026 and elected Eddie Kelly chair and Jackie Phillips vice chair by voice vote. Cindy Jones, Code Enforcement Officer for Zoning, presided until officers were elected and announced the results to the committee.
The leadership vote was followed immediately by routine business. Jones read the day’s agenda and explained that she would continue to support staff duties while the committee handled its public-hearing items. The committee then approved previous meeting minutes by voice vote.
The new chair and vice chair will preside over upcoming AFD matters including two removal requests heard at the meeting and a scheduled ordinance review. Committee members and staff discussed a planned 4–6 month review of the county’s Agricultural and Forestal District ordinance to clarify rules about additions, family subdivisions and other situations that routinely trigger hearings.
The meeting closed after administrative reminders about real-estate disclosure forms and packet delivery options for members. The committee scheduled at least one removal case for February and asked staff to circulate proposed ordinance clarifications in coming months.
