The Falls Church City Council voted unanimously to adopt a set of rules of procedure and a policy for remote participation at its Jan. 5 organizational meeting.
Staff presented TR2601 as the rules under which the prior council operated and explained the city charter requires adoption of rules at the organizational meeting; the resolution was recorded as effective Jan. 5, 2026. A council member noted the council will review the rules again at retreat and in work sessions to consider possible edits.
Council also adopted TR2602, authorizing a policy for electronic participation in meetings. Staff told the council that adoption is required by state law to permit remote attendance under the statute and that the policy generally follows previous versions, with legal tweaks to ensure continued compliance.
Both measures passed on roll-call votes, recorded as 7–0. Council members said they expect to revisit procedural questions — including meeting frequency and scheduling of proclamations — at upcoming retreats and committee sessions.
What’s next: The council will review possible changes to meeting schedules and procedural details at its retreat and subsequent work sessions.
