Priceville Mayor Sam Heflin proclaimed January 2026 as Human Trafficking Prevention Month, urging residents and agencies to strengthen awareness, training and survivor-centered services.
The proclamation, read aloud by the mayor, said the city seeks designation as a “trafficking free zone” and pledged support for awareness, training and partnerships to prevent trafficking and assist survivors. "I, Sam Heflin, as mayor of the City of Priceville, do hereby proclaim January 2026 as human trafficking prevention month," the proclamation states.
A representative who identified himself as Andy and said he works with the Children’s Aid Society of Alabama described local training programs and outreach. Andy told the council the group provides education for law enforcement, first responders, hospitals and schools and offered to provide training in Priceville.
The proclamation does not create new local regulations; rather, it commits the city to awareness and interagency cooperation and signals support for training and services identified in the document. The council received the proclamation and heard the offer of training from the nonprofit representative.
The city did not set dates or funding in the proclamation; council members indicated they would coordinate with the mayor’s office and local partners to pursue awareness and training opportunities.
