District targets SRS roof for Commonwealth facility-improvement grant; bids due early February

Staff said SRS emerged as the district's most immediate roofing priority after an updated survey and proposed a renovation approach that would avoid a full roof tear-off where feasible to reduce cost.
The administration said pre-bid and mandatory walkthroughs for roofing contractors have already occurred and bids are due in early February so the district can complete bid scoring and include procurement info in the March 13 grant submission. One board member asked whether a partial renovation could leave the district needing a full replacement soon after; staff replied the independent assessment recommended renovation rather than full replacement in most areas but that the approach was based on expert evaluation.
Why it matters: roof failures can force emergency repairs and interruptions to school operations; prioritizing an SRS renovation through a competitive state grant can stretch local capital funds.
