The Board of Directors unanimously adopted an ordinance to rezone a 4.5-acre property at 6212 Tennessee Road from R‑1 rural residential to A‑1 limited mixed use so the LaForce family can operate a "pick‑your‑own" blueberry and blackberry farm and a small on-site sales stand.
Planning staff described the site and said water is available on Tennessee Road but there is no sewer service, meaning owners will need a septic system. Staff told the board the LaForces intend to live on the property and that the parcel is otherwise surrounded by R‑1 lots. Planning commissioners and some neighbors had raised concerns about fertilizer, parking and strangers in the neighborhood, but the planning commission voted unanimously to forward the request to the board.
Mayor Brown told the board he had contacted the tax assessor, who indicated rezoning would not change adjacent property tax values; planning staff noted that taxes are not based on zoning. After three readings in abbreviated form the board voted to adopt the ordinance.
