Residents urge A&P removal after Ward 3 director’s actions at recent meeting

Marlon Lineberry told the board he believed the director’s conduct at the A&P meeting was “illegal” and asked the board to “take a look at what happened and maybe … have him removed.” George Dawson, who said he serves on the AMP committee, said the director’s conduct was “premeditated” and that a motion “was designed to fail.” Mark Locket told the board, “I demand your resignation off of the A and P commission.”
Board members responded that any legal determination would come from the city attorney. When asked to comment, Josh (staff member) said, “I haven’t seen anything illegal” in the meeting records he reviewed, and board leadership noted that some appointment procedures can be handled through executive-session minutes rather than a separate resolution.
Mayor Brown and other board members did not take immediate action to remove the member during the public meeting; the board later moved into executive session to consider a reappointment to the A&P commission. The board’s public discussion also included repeated requests that staff clarify whether the appointment had been properly noticed on the agenda and whether bylaws need amending.
Next steps: the board directed staff and legal counsel to review the A&P appointment process and address any procedural gaps; the matter was placed for executive-session consideration at the end of the meeting.
