Two residents who said they lost their home to a Nov. 29 fire used the public comment period to thank Mansfield’s first responders, volunteers and neighbors for immediate assistance and long-term support.
For the record, Tim Hyatt introduced himself and Amy Yockey and said they live at 1892 Shelby Ganges Road in Shelby, Ohio. Hyatt described the family’s experience freeing themselves from the house that night and the community response that followed. “We suffered a devastating house fire on the evening of November 29, and thanks to our beloved dog, Buddy, we all made it safely out,” he said. Hyatt recounted neighbors and volunteers supplying clothes and blankets and praised local organizations and city departments for their help.
Hyatt named several groups and officials in his remarks: Mansfield Police officers and personnel, Mansfield Firefighters, the Fraternal Order of Police, the International Association of Fire Fighters, the Richland County Board of Elections, Mansfield Clerk of Courts, and Codes and Permitting. He singled out Director Porch and Police Chief Grama for personal thanks and noted the Red Cross assisted the family after the fire.
Amy Yockey sat beside Hyatt and joined in the public expression of thanks. The pair said they appreciated both immediate material assistance (socks, sweatshirts) and ongoing community support, and they closed by conveying gratitude to public employees, neighbors and volunteer organizations.
The council acknowledged the comment with brief thanks. No policy requests or formal motions accompanied the public comment; the remarks were recorded as part of the meeting’s public-comment record.
