City reports 264 demolitions in 2025 through November under Dayton Recovery Plan

Steve Bridal told commissioners the program removed 18 structures in November — 14 routine demolitions and four "piles" removed under a fire‑pile contract — and that, year‑to‑date in 2025, crews have removed 264 properties. He said funding has come primarily from ARPA, with additional work funded through the Ohio Department of Development (ODOD), Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) and some general-fund activity.
Bridal said the city added 14 properties to the structural-nuisance list in November: 11 houses, one commercial property (2060 Gettysburg), one apartment building (1330 Xenia) and one garage. He noted the pipeline is slowing but asbestos surveys on 10 properties will likely lead to additional removals in December and January.
Commission members thanked staff for the work and asked about why "piles" are harder to clear. Bridal explained that piles require more effort due to EPA notification requirements, wrapping, and limits on local landfill disposal, sometimes necessitating transport to the Columbus landfill. He also said owner‑initiated rehabs can change scheduling for houses, while pile removals typically require more coordination and funding adjustments.
Commissioners requested continued reporting and thanked demolition crews for the progress recorded to date. Staff said they will return with December closeout and a year‑end accounting at an upcoming meeting.
