Board member Matt (Unidentified Speaker 6) warned the community could reject the project at Town Meeting if testing and outreach are incomplete; a resident urged that two sets of test numbers be ready for voters.
School Superintendent Beth Helt said the warrant language anticipates testing and that engineers have plans to test 'virgin' turf prior to installation and to simulate leachate. RJ Turcotte of the Nantucket Land and Water Council and Hazen & Sawyer staff recommended referencing appropriate lab methods (identified in the meeting as EPA method 1312 for leachate simulation and method 1633 for PFAS analysis or similar current methods), and suggested specifying the testing standard or the 'best available methodology.' The board requested that the school share engineering test documentation with the public ahead of Town Meeting to address voter concerns.
No binding decision on the warrant language occurred at the meeting beyond noting testing plans and promising additional outreach and documents to the Select Board and public.
