District operations staff presented a multi-school facilities plan for summer 2026 at the Jan. 15 board meeting, detailing base-bid projects and alternates across middle and elementary schools. “This summer, we've got a lot of things we wanna get done,” said Glenn, who outlined flooring repairs (noting Cooper’s sinking wing), restroom replacements at Cooper, Frost and Kilmer (base bid), boiler replacement at London, science-room and family-consumer-science renovations, and other capital work. Many enhancements (stage lighting, speaker systems, main-office remodels) were listed as alternates to be chosen depending on bid outcomes.
Bill Weiss presented the procurement timeline: construction documents near completion Jan. 22, bids to be released Jan. 27, pre-bid walks Jan. 29, bid opening Feb. 13, and a board recommendation on Feb. 19. The proposed construction window begins June 8 with substantial completion targeted Aug. 8 ahead of the Aug. 19 school year start.
On funding: administration said the district has set aside funds over multiple years and expects to use fund balance within board policy limits (35–45% target) to support $22–25 million of work this summer, with total potential scope around $30 million if prices allow. “We have some of our alternate bids that are higher priority items,” staff said, and the board will accept or reject base bids and pick alternates based on pricing.
What’s next: the board will review bid recommendations at the Feb. 19 meeting; construction would begin in June if contracts are awarded as scheduled.
