Taos school board swears in Mark T. Flores and Cynthia J. Spray

Mark T. Flores and Cynthia J. Spray were sworn in as members of the Taos Municipal School Board of Education at a special meeting on Jan. 8, 2026.
Judge Ernie Ortega administered the oath. Flores recited the pledge to support “the constitution of The United States and the constitution and laws of the state of New Mexico” and said he was beginning his fourth term. In prepared remarks, Flores thanked his family and district staff and said the board must support educators and provide them the tools to succeed.
Cynthia J. Spray repeated the oath and was confirmed as vice president for her second term. Vice President Spray also delivered the meeting’s land-acknowledgment statement, recognizing the historic homeland of the Red Willow people within Taz Pueblo territory and urging respectful partnership.
The swearing-in was followed by a brief roll call and the Pledge of Allegiance, led by Superintendent Lang.
The board did not take policy actions related to the swearing-in; the session proceeded to public comment and other agenda items.
