Bradenton resident urges review of school‑hour parking enforcement and raises affordability concerns

Colton Herman, a Bradenton resident, used the Jan. 14 citizen‑comment period to urge the city to reconsider 'no parking during school hours' signs in his neighborhood. Herman told council the signs were intended to protect students but that parents routinely line up on the street to pick up children and that recent enforcement left residents anxious about tickets.
Herman asked whether the city could remove the signage or issue resident stickers. Councilmember Barnaby said she had emailed the resident’s father and spoken with Police Chief Kramer, and that the city is ‘‘looking into the situation.’’ Chief Kramer said the signs were installed originally after neighborhood complaints about daytime parking by students and noted that removing the restriction could leave residents without available parking during school hours.
Herman also raised affordability concerns, saying a new job at Sunrise Head Start pays $16 an hour and leaves little room for household basics, making homeownership improbable for him at that wage.
Council members thanked Herman and said staff would follow up: Barnaby indicated she has already spoken with police leadership and will forward any findings to the resident.
